Welcome to
Planet Rock
We are excited to introduce you to the awesome sport of rock climbing!
Planet Rock offers a variety of ways for new climbers to start rock climbing. All first-time visitors to our gyms are required to take a safety orientation or complete Starter Package prior to climbing inside either of our facilities. Safety orientations do not require reservations, but Starter Packages and advanced classes require reservations. Please read the rock climbing options below to plan your first visit.
The minimum age to climb at Planet Rock is 4 years of age. The minimum age to belay at Planet Rock is 16 years of age.
Planet Rock requires all visitors to our gyms (climbers, guardians + spectators) to have a digital waiver on file with the gyms. We recommend completing this waiver prior to your first visit.
Top Rope Climbing
Top rope climbing is a version of climbing where the rope is anchored into chains at the top of the climbing wall. Top Rope climbing requires a partner, aka belayer. All new climbers looking to climb on top ropes at Planet Rock must either successfully complete a Starter Package or successfully pass a belay check upon arrival.
Minimum age to belay or take this lesson is 16 years old.
Great Place to Start Rope Climbing
Auto-Belay
Auto-belays provide the similar experience and protection as rope climbing, without the need for a belayer.
All new climbers looking to use the auto-belays are required to take an Auto-Belay Orientation prior to climbing at Planet Rock. Walk-in Auto-Belay Orientations are available every day of the week.
Children under the age of 16 must be supervised by a guardian at all times. Children under the age of 14 are required to be clipped into auto-belays by a guardian.
Perfect for Beginners and Individuals
Shorter Climbs Without Ropes
Bouldering

All new climbers are required to take a Boulder Orientation prior to climbing at Planet Rock. Walk-in Bouldering Orientations are available every day of the week.
Children under the age of 16 must be supervised at all times while bouldering at Planet Rock.
Next Level Rope Climbing
Lead Climbing
Lead climbing is a version of rope climbing where the climber brings the rope up from the ground, and clips the rope into designated safety points (quick draws) as they ascend the climbing wall. This style of rock climbing requires maximum proficiency with both lead belaying and lead climbing. Experienced lead climbers can request a lead check from the front desk during any open gym session. Availability of lead checks is subject to staff availability and can vary from day to day.
Planet Rock offers Lead Lessons at all our locations, however times and availability vary from location to location.
