Groups & Parties

For group events of all sizes including birthday parties, schools, scout troops and Bar Mitzvahs, we're the perfect place. Planet Rock plans and facilitates groups and parties for all ages and budgets. All groups, including private groups and parties that take place during business hours, can be arranged through our group coordinator.

Small Groups & Parties
Groups of fewer than 15 people are welcome to climb during open hours. Prices for small groups follow regular Planet Rock rates. The advantage is that small groups will receive one free adult belay lesson per every for child starter packages purchased.

A private room with space to set up food and open presents is available for rent during business hours ($15 per hour) (currently at Ann Arbor location only)

If adults do not want to learn how to belay (hold the ropes), Planet Rock belayers may be hired at a rate of $25 per hour. Arrangements must be made at least 2 weeks in advance.

Large Groups - 15 people or more
Groups of 15 or more people may rent the gym for private use for three or more hours.

Rates
The rates listed below are for three hours of private gym use and groups of 35 or more people have additional costs. Please see the chart below to calculate total costs.

For groups of 35 or more, there is a charge for one Planet Rock belayer for every 5 participants of $60 each for 3 hours.
Additional hours (>3 hours) of private gym use are charged at a rate of $110 (Pontiac) or $125 (Ann Arbor) per hour plus $25 per hour for each belayer.
Observing guests are $5 each (first 10 free)
Maximum occupancy of Pontiac is 350 & Ann Arbor is 400.
A $150 deposit is required to reserve the gym.

Hours for private gym use:
Mon-Fri 9 am - 2:30 pm
Friday 10 pm - 2 am
Saturday 8 am - 11 am or 8pm - 1am

Scout Merit Badge Groups
Merit Badge groups follow the above large group pricing plus an additional instruction charge as outlined below:

Basic Merit Badge: covers sections 3,5, & 8-11 in the handbook - $15/climber
