Programs for Kids


Planet Rock offers climbing programs for kids of all ages and abilities. Our programs are designed not only to teach the safety and technical skills necessary for climbing, but also to nurture a lifelong love for fitness and the sport of climbing.

  • Summer Day Camps - Week long summer day camps for kids ages 8 to 15 and ABC Camp for kids ages 4 to 7.
  • ABC for Kids - A structured one-hour weekly class in our special ABC room for kids ages 3 through 6.
  • Climbing Club - A fun learning environment for kids ages 7 through 15. Meets weekly for 3 hours.
  • Climbing Team - For motivated climbers from age 9 through 19 who are ready to compete. Meets 3 times weekly for 8 hours of instruction.


Climbing Camps!!!
Can you climb in and out of bed? Can you climb on a jungle gym? Can you climb a tree? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then check it out! Climb walls five stories high at camp this year! Yep, just like spider man. Planet Rock has the largest climbing gyms in North America with over 38,000 square feet of climbing surface.

Planet Rock has been running day camps since 1996. Our goal is to provide kids with a safe environment in which to experiment with movement, practice teamwork, and have fun. Knowledgeable and experienced staff will instruct campers in proper safety precautions as well as skills and techniques for climbing.

Details:
  • Kids bring their own sack lunch
  • All gear is provided
  • Camp fee includes all equipment, instruction, and camp T-shirt
  • Cost is $165 per session ($50/session due at registration)
Ages 8-15 Kids learn climbing safety, build self-confidence, and use new muscle groups while learning teamwork and communication skills. Limited to 30 campers with an average staff to camper ratio of 1 to 5. Camps run M-F from 10:00 to 2:00.

Ages 4-7 Our special Agility, Balance and Coordination (ABC) Camp for younger kids incorporates climbing skills and safety with yoga, gymnastics and educational games. Limited to 20 campers with an average staff to camper ratio of 1 to 4. Camps run M-F from 11:00 to 2:00.

ABC for Kids - Agility, Balance & Coordination
A special program for kids ages 3 to 6

ABC for KIDS is a unique program focused on developing agility, balance, and coordination. Our specially designed elements encourage physical and mental growth through movement and exploration. We offer an extraordinary staff of acclaimed climbers, mothers, specialists in yoga and gymnastics instructors - all with a passion for teaching children.
  • Structured classes incorporate climbing skills and safety with yoga, gymnastics and educational games.
  • Kids learn to navigate a hanging obstacle course that changes from week to week.
  • Our unique room challenges kids with irresistible activities that encourage independence and build confidence.

We believe that learning is a process of exploration and observation and that children will discover ideas on their own if given the right tools. Confidence and self-esteem grow from this process of observation and discovery.

Summer Session begins July 11!!!
Classes are one hour long and will be mixed ages (3-6 years). Summer session will be 8 weeks long and will run on Saturdays only.
Cost is $112.00 for one eight week session

Birthday Parties!
ABC for Kids birthday parties offer action packed fitness and fun for kids turning three to seven. We provide the instructors and activities while you supply the food and drinks. Our instructors take care of all the fun, games and clean up. We will lead your group through one hour and fifteen minutes of activities that are adapted to your child's age and his/her friends' abilities and adventure levels. This is followed by 45 minutes of cake eating and present opening. We love Birthday Parties and the kids do too! Call today for more information.



Planet Rock's ABC for KIDS program is modeled after the ABC for KIDS program in Boulder, CO developed by Robyn Erbesfield, a world renowned climber. Robyn won the US Championship 5 times and also won 4 World Cup Titles. Although she has coached climbers since 1993, Robyn officially retired from competition in 1996 to become a mother and eventually the head coach for the USA Climbing Team. Robyn has worked with children for over 15 years as a personal trainer specializing in working with junior elite athletes.

















Climbing Club

Planet Rock's Junior Climbing Club is a recreational environment where kids ages 7 through 15 can get together and experience the challenges of rock climbing, under the supervision of experienced coaches and climbers. Club members will practice new techniques each week and will learn the importance of fitness, working as a team and having fun!

Members Receive:
  • 3 hours of technique and training instruction within a small group setting weekly. Ann Arbor: Weds. OR Thurs. 5:30 to 8:30, Pontiac: Tues. 5:00 to 8:00
  • Climbing safety instruction, parent belay certification, and lead climbing instruction for members 14 and older
  • Unlimited climbing at the Ann Arbor & Pontiac gyms
  • 15% discount on all gear and clothing
  • Club logo T-shirt
Member Obligations:
  • Attend Club practices regularly
  • Pay monthly dues of $155.00




Climbing Team

Planet Rock's Climbing Team offers motivated climbers ages 9 through 19 the training and discipline needed to succeed in nationally sanctioned competitions. Developed and supervised by nationally recognized climbers, Planet Rock's Climbing Team aims to challenge and inspire young climbers to achieve their highest potential both physically and mentally, increase self-confidence, and work successfully as part of a winning team.

Members Receive:
  • Up to 9 hours of training weekly: In Pontiac - Monday and Wednesday 6 to 8:30, Sunday 3 to 6; in Ann Arbor - Tuesday and Thursday 6 to 8:30, Sunday 3 to 6
  • Climbing safety instruction both indoors and out, parent belay certification, and lead climbing instruction for members 14 and older
  • Unlimited climbing at the Ann Arbor & Pontiac gyms, including a guest pass
  • 25% Discount on gear and clothing
  • Team logo clothing and equipment
  • Guided trips for members and parents
Member Obligations:
  • Attend Team practices
  • Own shoes, harness, belay device & chalk bag
  • Compete in ABS and USA Climbing competitions
  • Pay monthly dues of $215.00
